{"id":69,"date":"2015-04-30T01:28:19","date_gmt":"2015-04-30T05:28:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/?p=69"},"modified":"2019-06-26T16:53:07","modified_gmt":"2019-06-26T20:53:07","slug":"5-college-football-coaches-who-are-on-the-hot-seat-this-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/?p=69","title":{"rendered":"5 College Football Coaches Who are on the Hot Seat This Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are still five months away from the beginning of the college football season. \u00a0However, it is never too early to think about which coaches will be receiving their pink slips after this season. \u00a0The next five coaches I am about to list should be taking a look over their shoulders, and if they don&#8217;t perform, could be shipped out. \u00a0What is important to understand about this article is that we should not celebrate firings in college sports, and while most of the coaches on this list are held to ridiculously unrealistic standards, that is simply the business that college football is.<\/p>\n<p>#5: Les Miles, LSU<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Les-Miles.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-74\" src=\"https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Les-Miles-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"BATON ROUGE, LA - NOVEMBER 29:  Head coach Les Miles of the LSU Tigers reacts during pre game before playing the Arkansas Razorbacks at Tiger Stadium on November 29, 2013 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. choice. \u00a0However, when examined closely, it makes much more sense. \u00a0LSU raked in the #6 recruiting class this year, per Yahoo.com, and this included 5-star recruits such as running back Derrius Guice, wide receiver Tyron Johnson, offensive lineman Maea Teuhema, and defensive back Kevin Tolliver II.\u00a0 None of those recruits play quarterback.\u00a0 While Brandon Harris flashes potential, he has not yet reached the quarterback that many expected him to be.\u00a0 Running back Leonard Fournette may very well win a Heisman this year, and it may be in vain.\u00a0 This is a team that has also failed to make a BCS\/NY6 bowl in the last three seasons.<\/p>\n<p>#4: Larry Fedora, North Carolina<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-73\" src=\"https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Larry-Fedora-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Larry Fedora\" width=\"821\" height=\"616\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Larry-Fedora-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Larry-Fedora-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Larry-Fedora.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This team\u00a0returns ten out of its eleven starters on offense.\u00a0 They will be able to light up Saturdays and outscore many an opponent.\u00a0 Also, it has brought in former Auburn head coach Gene Chizik to run its defense; but it shouldn\u2019t make a difference. \u00a0The defense will continue to struggle as it did last season.\u00a0 Last year, the Carolina team defense was, uh, not great (11<sup>th<\/sup> most total yards allowed in the country).\u00a0 Consider these factors as well as an incredibly weak schedule as you look at this Carolina team.\u00a0 If they underachieve, look for Fedora\u2019s ouster.<\/p>\n<p>#3: Pat Fitzgerald, Northwestern<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Pat-Fitzgerald.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-72\" src=\"https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Pat-Fitzgerald-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Pat Fitzgerald\" width=\"818\" height=\"461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Pat-Fitzgerald-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Pat-Fitzgerald.jpg 576w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This one is relatively simple: Northwestern has not reached a bowl game in the last two seasons.\u00a0 While it did achieve quality wins over Notre Dame and Wisconsin last year, it 3-7 outside of those games \u00a0The big wins almost served as smokescreens for the rest of the team&#8217;s games.\u00a0 Worst of all, the team won ten games but three years ago, and was 4-0 to start the 2013 season before falling apart after a tough home loss to Ohio State.<\/p>\n<p>#2: Bob Stoops, Oklahoma<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Bob-Stoops.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-71\" src=\"https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Bob-Stoops-300x164.jpg\" alt=\"Bob Stoops\" width=\"821\" height=\"449\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Bob-Stoops-300x164.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Bob-Stoops.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Virtually all of the team\u2019s featured talent from last season is back from last year, including FBS single-game rushing record holder Samaje Perine and star wide receiver Sterling Shepard.\u00a0 Also returning is enigmatic quarterback Trevor Knight, whose struggled last season before going down to a frightening spine injury.\u00a0 While the running back position is deep with Perine and Joe Mixon, the defense, and, in particular, the secondary will struggle due to its being very thin\/young.\u00a0 This one largely depends on where the OU athletic department\u2019s expectations lie for the upcoming season.\u00a0 If they expect a NY6 bid and the team underachieves, Stoops is gone.\u00a0 But if they don\u2019t Stoops should be safe.<\/p>\n<p>#1: Al Golden, Miami<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Fear-the-Tie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-70\" src=\"https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Fear-the-Tie-300x217.jpg\" alt=\"Fear the Tie\" width=\"814\" height=\"589\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Fear-the-Tie-300x217.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sullyonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Fear-the-Tie.jpg 525w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This one is just too easy.\u00a0 Golden is entering his fifth season at \u201cThe U\u201d and has gone a mediocre 28-22 over his first four.\u00a0 However, in fairness, he has put under strict recruiting restrictions due to the Nevin Shapiro scandal.\u00a0 This is the make or break year, though.\u00a0 With the amount of coaches who would love to coach in Miami (including late 90s-early 2000s Hurricanes\u2019 savior Butch Davis), the expectations are naturally way too high here.\u00a0 Quite a few of the team\u2019s starters return from last season, including promising young quarterback Brad Kaaya.\u00a0 Throw in the third-toughest schedule in the country, and underachievement is bound to happen.\u00a0 The likeliest outcome here is Golden\u2019s firing.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE: An earlier version of this article stated that the Miami Head Coach in the late 1990s-early 2000s was Butch Jones. \u00a0Obviously, it wasn&#8217;t;
